“Warm Presence” is a tactile textile artwork that turns wool, velvet, and thread into a quiet story about safety. Hand-embroidered and collaged, it is set in a soft black velvet frame that makes the piece feel less like a picture and more like a comforting object.
Title: “Warm Presence”
Size: 41×55 cm (embroidery), 49×63×3 cm (with textile frame)
Medium: Textile collage, embroidery, mixed-media textile
Series: Comfort Zone. Do Not Disturb
Artistic Style and Texture
A girl in a textured blue dress stands among tall, softly striped trees, her gaze lowered. Behind her hangs a strip of crushed red velvet, like a curtain or a door closing on everything that demands and waits. At her feet are two sheep: one leans against her, the other rests nearby. Their wool is made from thick looped yarn, so it looks and feels almost real. Dense vertical stitches build the foliage, long horizontal strokes shape the meadow, and a vivid blue satin sky holds the whole scene together. Her small red velvet boots echo the red behind her.
The Story Behind the Work
Sheep travel from one of my works to another. To me they stand for innocence, safety, and warmth. They are gentle, slightly funny creatures that ask for nothing and simply give wool, the very material we use to knit, sew, and keep ourselves warm. In this piece they become a quiet protection: beside them, she doesn’t need to hold herself upright or be strong.
About the Frame
The black velvet frame is part of the artwork. It softens the edges, adds depth, and closes the space around the scene like a shelter, a “do not disturb” sign made of fabric.
